The “Tulip chair” is the first model of the famous “Pedestal Series”, the group of chairs and tables with a single leg, created by Saarinen beginning from 1956. This represents the peak of the work in the field of “organic design”, that Saarinen developed with Eames in the early 1940s. In his intent, the chair could be made of a single material, the plastic. The industry in the 1950s was not able to successfully carry out his idea, so it required the production of a base in aluminium fusion. Base in cast aluminium. Fiberglass shell.
